What the hell is a Ripper?

The Ripper is a deep fried hot dog that originated at the Clifton, New Jersey landmark restaurant, Rutt's Hut.
It's a special wiener that can withstand the high temperature of deep frying. The result is a dog that's crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. While not the prettiest thing to look at, covered with a special garlicky relish, it's truly amazing to eat.

Now you can get one in the San Fernando Valley at Fab Dogs in Reseda. I highly recommend this place. Not only can you get a Ripper, the menu is a virtual trek across the country by way of specialty hot dogs. From the New York Coney Island dog, to the southern Slaw Dog, this is a trip that should be taken by any hot dog loving individual. One thing not to be missed are the home made tater tots!
